After a cold and unpleasant early morning which may have deterred many from arranging to play golf, Monday developed into quite a pleasant day for those who entered the November Seniors’ Open.
Victory went to the ever enthusiastic Matt Connolly with 34pts off 12. Although there was little wrong with his general play the real strength of his game lay in his short game as he left a string of chips to greens stone dead. Matt is a well known technician of the game and his advice has helped many over the years so it is always good to see him claim a prize for himself.
Aidan Thornbury’s early birdies at 2 and 3 meant he was right in the mix from the very start. Unfortunately for him a double bogey at 6 soon followed and despite no mistakes thereafter he had to settle for the runners-up spot with 33pts off 9.
Third place went to the elegant John O’Neill with 32pts off 5. Well known for a slow smooth swing which hits the ball a long way he countered bogeys at 5 and 17 with a birdie at 10 for the day’s lowest score of 1 over par.
