Richard Dillon couldn’t have seen the year out in better fashion than by winning the December Seniors’ Open with 44pts off 17.
Double bogeys at 7 and 15 were the only hints of error in his round, but he covered the 7 holes between in 1 under par thanks to a birdie at 12. This very experienced competitor will no doubt be looking forward to the New Year with some considerable relish. For the second day in a row the runners-up spot went to Aidan Thornbury. He continued with his impressive form to score 42pts, off 13, his only slip up being a double bogey at 13. He easily put this behind him as he dropped just one more shot before the conclusion of his round.
Brian Brady, Silverwood, took 3rd place with 41pts off 11. He managed to edge out the big-hitting duo of Canice McGivern, 10, and Peter Johnston, 18, over the closing holes.
After finishing 3rd in the Club Sweep just two days previously, Paul Lyness found a place among the prizes again as he took the gross with 32 gross pts. He edged Joe Dowey Jnr out of the prizes over the back 9 holes. Whilst Paul’s 14 pars and 4 bogeys reflected a consistent, trouble free round, Joe’s 4 birdies, 6 pars and 8 bogeys suggest his round might have been a little like a roller-coaster ride.
