Captain

It is a great honour to be asked to be Captain of our Club for 2013.

I am taking over at an exciting time for the club, with the further development of our golf academy on the brink of proceeding and the prospect of excellent talent coming through our juvenile section in both the girls and boys sections.

A large vote of thanks is due to my predecessor Paddy Meehan who has been in office for the past two years.
Paddy has been a tremendous ambassador for the club as well as working very hard behind the scenes, particularly with reference to the Academy. He fully deserves the chance to be able to concentrate on his own golf, but I am pleased to say that he has agreed to continue working on the Academy.

Our course remains in great shape, especially when the rainfall of the past year is taken into account. We are lucky to have such an able team of green keepers, under the expert guidance of our greens conveners Tom Douglas and Dan McCool. Please remember that it is your course, and it is important that we all do everything possible to maintain it with particular emphasis on repairing pitch marks and replacing all divots.

Our club is in a healthy position financially, thanks to the diligence of the club officers, particularly when the overall financial climate is taken into account.

I am grateful for all the encouragement that I have received from many members, from Muriel and Grainne, and from Lynne and Peter in the Pro shop.

My best wishes go to our Ladies Branch for the year ahead, especially our Lady Captain, Anne Knox. I am looking forward to the Horseshoe challenge already!

It only remains for me to wish all our members and visitors a wonderful year of golf. I intend to enjoy it and I hope you all will too.

Lady Captain’s Welcome

Dear Members

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I approach the captaincy for 2013. I would like to thank the outgoing Lady Captain, Dee Farrell for giving me the opportunity to take on the job and for all her hard work over the previous season.

The ladies’ section of the club had a great year in 2012, with several teams progressing to Ulster finals and of course, the icing on the cake, our U19 girls’ success at both Ulster and All-Ireland levels. With the new season almost upon us, one of the things I am looking forward to is the team competitions, where I hope we can build on our successes of last season. We are very lucky to have a thriving ladies’ membership with a healthy juveniles’ girls section, so the prospects for the season look good.

I would like to congratulate the new Lady President, Marie Magee and my Vice-Captain Pam Graham on their appointments and look forward to working alongside them this year. The ladies’ committee is gearing up for the new season and I thank them in advance for all the effort they put in to make the ladies’ branch run successfully.

We have long had the privilege of playing on a very well kept and maintained course, for which we must thank our dedicated greens staff. I wish our new Captain, Dr. Sean Wilson a successful and enjoyable year and together we shall do our best to promote the club wherever required.

I wish all our members a happy and productive golfing season, we can only hope for one a little drier than last year!

Anne Knox
(Lady Captain)
