Club Captain 2017 Chris Stevenson
The Mens Junior Cup team won the Ulster Section last year being narrowly defeated in the All Ireland Final at Carton House. Our teams have been growing in strength year by year and we are hoping they can go the extra mile this year, by bringing home a green pennant or two, along with some more silverware to adorn our trophy cabinet.
The course continues to improve year by year, thanks to the hard work of the Head Greens Keeper Neil Gordon, his staff, and our greens conveyor Tom Douglas. Our course and facilities are the envy of many other Clubs, with the golf academy recognised as a GUI Centre of Excellence, and a first class pro shop supported by Peter, Lynne and his staff. Many congratulations to Peter having being appointed pro PGA vice-captain this year, and he will take on his role as PGA Captain in 2019. This is indeed a great honour for Peter, his family and also for our Club.
Our catering facilities are indeed a credit to the Club thanks to the hard work put in by Mickey, Colleen and their staff. It would be remiss of me not to give thanks to Stevie and his friendly staff behind the bar for the way they look after us during the year. Muriel with the help of Hanna and Grainne are always there to help members and to ensure the smooth running of the Club.
As some of you may be aware my wife Joy has been elected Lady Captain this year, and I believe this is the first time in the history of the Club that a husband and wife have been Captain and Lady Captain in the same year. So I would wish Joy and the Ladies Branch continued success this year.
I take great pride in what our Club has achieved over the years, and I know this is shared by the vast majority of our members, who by working together contribute to our Club growing in stature. I look forward to meeting and playing with as many members as possible, and for everyone to have a very enjoyable year of golf.
Lady Captain 2017 Joy Stevenson
Lady Captains Welcome
It is a great honour for me to take on the role of Lurgan Golf Club Lady Captain, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Lady Captain Fran McCann for asking me to be her Vice-Captain last year. I trust in my year of office that I will be able to continue the good work that Fran and previous Lady Captains have set in place, for the continued success and camaraderie of the ladies section. I am genuinely excited about the opportunities it will present, the places I will visit and the people I will meet representing this Golf Club.
The ladies section continues to grow from strength to strength, and I would like to warmly welcome all our new members who have helped swell our ranks. I am looking forward to supporting our teams and team captains in their matches in the forthcoming golfing season. Lets hope this year will be as successful in bringing home some silverware to add to our collection.
I am delighted that Niamh McSherry and Annabel Wilson were selected to represent the Irish International girls team last summer, and the resulting honour it has brought to Lurgan Golf Club. We all wish them continued success for the future.
Congratulations on the appointment of our new Lady President, Anne Corrigan and my Vice Captain Elaine Bell. I look forward to working alongside them and the ladies committee as the new season approaches.
As some of you may be aware, this is the first time in the history of the club that a husband and wife have had the privilege of sharing their captaincys together in the same year, so I congratulate my husband Chris on becoming Club Captain and wish him an enjoyable year ahead.
It is always a pleasure to play on such an attractive and well maintained course as we have in Lurgan, and for that I thank our Head Greens Keeper, Neill Gordon, his staff, and our Greens Convenor, Tom Douglas.
It just remains for me to wish all our lady members a great year of golf ahead, and please remember golf is for fun, so lets all enjoy ourselves.
