It was a very pleasant Halloween for both Bryan Turkington and Richard Budd after Monday’s and Wednesday’s competitions saw them rearrange themselves on the podium.
Bryan followed his third place finish in the Seniors’ on Monday by winning the Wednesday Sweep with 43pts off 13. On both days he had 24pts at the turn and his birdie at 10 on Wednesday suggested there would be no repeat of the mini-collapse which had seen him tumble from the top on Monday. He did try to repeat things thereafter by dropping shots 6 shots on the way home and there must have been times when he said to himself, ‘Oh no! Not again!’ In the end he won by the handsome margin of 3pts.
Richard came second with 40pts off 8 to continue the blistering form he has been showing recently. He lifted his section on Saturday in the Winter League, won the Seniors’ on Monday and must now be thinking of the prizes every time he tees off.
Third place went to Kieran McCorry with 39pts off 18. Kieran is another player who seems to favour winter conditions and will no doubt be a familiar face among the winners in the coming months.
Ronan McCrory had the best gross score of the day after going round in 1 under par. An opening birdie was soon followed by an eagle at 4 and he eventually reached the turn at 2 under par. Birdies at 10 and 15 helped him keep the momentum and this very talented young player just seems to be going from strength to strength.
