The monthly Seniors Opens seemed to begin their summer season properly yesterday when players from 7 different clubs enjoyed the warm summer sunshine on a course in excellent condition.
G Montgomery from Clandeboye made his trip to the Orchard County very worthwhile as he lifted first prize with 40pts off 18.
The runners-up spot went to another visitor when William Earley rowed in with 39pts off 18. After 20pts on his front 9 he made no mistakes on his way home to lift the prize on the back 9.
Terence E Murphy, 14, also had 39pts and took 3rd place. After 9 holes he had 22pts only for 4 bogeys and 2 double bogeys to restrict his homeward haul to 17pts.
The day’s gross prize went to Paul Magee who shot a 2 over par round of 72 for 34 gross pts. Birdies at 2 and 18 were accompanied by 12 pars and 4 bogeys for the lowest score of the day.
Shot of the day came at the 12th where Richard Budd holed out for the first hole in one of the season at the club.
