WEDNESDAY SWEEP 17 October
Louie Moore returned to winning ways when he took the Wednesday Sweep with 41pts off 19. A birdie at 10 set him up for a back 9 of 21pts to claim victory over the homeward stretch.
Also on 41pts was the irrepressible Shane Magee off 3. Birdies at 2 and 4 saw him reach the turn 2 under par. His only dropped shot came at 13 but he redressed that slip with a closing birdie for the day’s lowest round of 68.
His recent form wouldn’t have filled Marty Rea with much optimism before teeing off and an NR at 6 will have left him feeling more of the same was to follow. He will have been as surprised as anyone to have come home in level par helped by birdies at 10 and 17 to take 3rd place with 39pts off 11. Those homeward pts proved decisive as they enabled him to hold off the respective challenges of veterans Paddy Meehan, 12, and John Hartnett, 7, who also had 39pts.
Birdies at 4, 6 and 18 helped Francis Tallon to a level par round to take the day’s gross prize. It is coming into the time of year where Francis is sometimes known as Mr Birdie Man and he has certainly begun as he hopes to continue.
Brian Doley was just out of the prizes with 38pts off 9, but he went home happier than most after his tee shot at 12 found the hole for the first hole in one of the winter season.
