The sudden appearance of Spring attracted over 100 golfers to the first tee to compete in the Wednesday Sweep and in the very popular evening 9 hole event.
The Sweep was won by Alex Denver with 39pts, off 5, after a typically consistent round of 72. There was barely a slip in his performance which saw 16 pars accompanied by bogeys at 11 and 16 and his early season form suggests he will spend yet another year hovering around the podium.
Maurice Turnbull also had 39pts, off 24, but his NR at 15 restricted his homeward score to 17pts, 1pt less than the winner over the same stretch.
Double bogeys at 3, 5 and 6 must have made Bryan Turkington feel that his remarkable run of prize winning performances had come to an end, but he turned things around with birdies at 8, 10 and 18 to take third place and retain a place on a podium which he seems very reluctant to leave.
Joe McGlone continued in his rich vein of form to take 4th place with 38pts off 18, nudged off the podium by Bryan’s birdie at the last.
Timmy Cummins and Eamon Lynch each had 33 gross pts with Eamon’s NR at 15 seeing Timmy lift the gross prize with the better back 9.
