After following a 3rd place finish the previous Wednesday with a runners-up spot on Sunday, Joe Dowey Jnr completed the set of podium finishes with victory in the Wednesday Sweep on 41pts off 7.
The only slip-up in the three rounds came with an NR at 15 in his victorious round, but 12 birdies over the three rounds helped him to a total of 126pts in a treasure laden week. The runners-up spot went to Shane Magee who balanced 4 birdies with an equal number of bogeys for a level par round and 39pts off 3.
Michael Purdy had 23pts in the bag at the turn helped by a birdie at 9. He encountered some difficulties on his return journey however, and double bogeys at 11 and 13 saw him finish with an ultimately disappointing 39pts off 15 to take third place.
Marcel Shanks bettered his handicap for the fourth time in a row to finish in 4th place with 37pts off 5. Also on 37pts were Jim McKee, 3, and Raymond McCrory, 11, and they were closely followed a point behind by the extremely capable Sean McClean, 17, and Alex Denver, 4.
Ronan McCrory’s relentless sparkling form shows no sign of abating and he took his third gross prize in a row after a 2 under par round gave him 38 gross pts. Indeed this was his 5th gross prize in his last 6 outings leaving vastly more experienced golfers grasping fruitlessly at his coat tails.
