As 2020 dawns, I am filled with a mixture of both excitement and nerves! I would like to thank outgoing Lady Captain, Pat Carville, for her invitation to be Lady Captain of Lurgan Golf Club. It is an honour to accept and I will endeavour to carry out my duties and promote the high standards set by all the Lady Captains who have gone before me! Since I joined Lurgan Golf Club in 2000, I have been impressed by the friendliness of the members and how naturally everyone mixes together regardless of age, gender or background. I hope that this will continue and with the introduction of One Governing Body in 2021, the future looks bright.
The Ladies Branch at Lurgan Golf Club is a vibrant group both on and off the Golf Course. We are delighted to see so many ladies joining the Get into Golf Programme, led by our Assistant Professional, Zoe Allen, assisted by the Ladies committee. I hope that they will feel welcome and I encourage them to play with established members despite how daunting that prospect may be!
I am hoping that 2020 will see some silverware gracing our Trophy Cabinet and wish our Team captains and their team’s good luck in their matches. I look forward to following them in their quest for glory. Our young ladies continue to delight as they fly Lurgan Golf Club’s flag on a worldwide stage - if only club funds would permit us follow them in person!!!!!
It takes many people for the successful running of our Club and I look forward to working closely with Club Captain, Eugene Maguire and his team. The management of the fairways, bunkers and (all) the trees, is under the expert care of Head Green keeper, Neil and Green convenor Tom Douglas. Bunker 47 can be relied upon to keep us fed, while Stephen and his team are kept busy in the Bar. Peter Hanna and his staff are also on hand to offer advice, wisdom, fashion and of course, for many of us, much needed lessons.
Together with my Lady Vice Captain, Ita Hanna, I am looking forward to working with our Lady President, Eileen McCann, the Ladies committee and Lady Members as we enjoy this frustrating but very enjoyable pastime – Golf!
