Another great month at the Club with lots of good scores to remember, and lots and lots of not so good scores to forget. The best nett score of the month was returned by Andrew ‘crooner’ Heaseley when he lifted the August Medal with a nett 62. Having ended July playing off 24, Andrew is entering autumn a full 4 shots lower.

In July Ronan McCrory shared the honour of the month’s lowest gross score with two others, but he easily claimed the honour in August with a brilliant 64 which could well turn out to be the best score of the year on the course. Two outward birdies played their part in a front 9 of 34 shots, but 6 homeward birdies helped him to a back 9 of just 30 shots. Ronan will surely be hitting the headlines for a long time to come.

Sub-par rounds of the month were:

64 Ronan McCrory

67 Nathan McCann

68 Ronan McCrory, Caolan McCann, Colin Thompson, Robert Emerson, Jim McKee

69 Patrick Jordan, Nathan McCann (x3), Gary Clarke, Ronan McCrory, Robert Emerson

Holes in One

There were two holes in one during the month. Gerard Nelson had a bumper pay day when he holed out at the 12th hole on President’s Day, and Tony Gallery struck early when his tee shot found the cup at the 2nd hole in the Lurgan Mail Trophy.

Eagles of the month

1st hole - James Horan

2nd - Tony Gallery

10th - Jim McKee, Robert Emerson, Anselm Henry, Ciaran McGirr, Nicholas Campbell

12th - Gerard Nelson

15th - Nathan McCann

16th - Colin Thompson

18th - Nathan McCann

Player of the Month

It is always difficult to narrow so many good performances down to one but there are some obvious candidates who would easily make their way onto a shortlist.

Andrew Heaseley is probably still replaying every shot of his very impressive nett 62 in the August Medal, and can no doubt recall a few missed opportunities to go even lower.

Ronan McCrory had 3 rounds below par during the month, the best of which was a brilliant 6 under 64 and his handicap now stands at +1.1.

Eugene and Christine Maguire had that run of three victories in three days to make their way onto the shortlist. Apparently, it was Christine’s impressive play which was mainly responsible for their victory in the Gerry O’Neill Mixed Greensomes, so it is she who receives the nomination.

Belfast and District Cup

Under the guidance of Tom Douglas, the Belfast and District Cup team have played their way into the final of this prestigious and historic competition. Well done to Tom and the boys and good luck in the final.
