Club Sweep (29th December)

Henry Jordan chose his last competition of the year to record his first victory of 2018 when he lifted the Club Sweep with 35pts off 16.

He squeezed a pair of double bogeys between birdies at his first and fourth holes but made no further slips as he strode to a long awaited and very welcome victory. The runners-up spot went to Chris Quinn whose 33pts, off 10, saw him better his handicap for the third time in a row.  A birdie at 11 will have pleased him most on a day when twos were in short supply on the course.

Edged into 3rd place over the closing holes was the extremely consistent Paul Lyness with 33pts off 5.  Birdies at 3 and 6 were balanced by bogeys at 8 and 10 for a level par round for a player who is never far out of contention. Conor Roddy’s birdies at 10 and 12 helped him climb to the top of a bunch of 10 players on 32pts.  Conor had been unable to find a place among the prizes having scored 40pts on his previous outing, but he didn’t have to wait long to make a long anticipated return to reward when he lifted the day’s fourth nett prize. The other players on 32pts were Brian McCabrey, 14, Bill Leslie, 16, Raymond McCrory, 9, Colm Nash, 10, Michael McMahon, 9, Alex Denver, 3, Francis Tallon, 3, Eddie Girvan, 9, and Joe McGlone, 15.

Alex Denver was one of three players on the day to return a 1 under par round of 69, and he took the day’s gross prize over the closing holes.  Birdies at 1 and 18, and a bogey at 13, helped him add to his current impressive returns.

Francis Tallon, 3, and Ronan McCrory, scratch, also had rounds of 1 under par.
