On Tuesday 30th April, Lady Captain Pat Carville, welcomed lady members to the April prize-giving. She also commended the hardy souls, some would say foolish, who had braved the elements earlier in the day to play in the Carroll Cup. It was lovely to see Past Lady Captain and President , Dorothy Woods joining us for the evening. Lady Captain updated the ladies on the progress of the teams. She congratulated Elaine Bell and her Minor Cup team on their win the previous Sunday which saw them through to the second round where they will face Banbridge. She commiserated with the Junior Foursomes who had unfortunately lost their first round match the previous day. Lady Captain also reminded the ladies of some important dates in the future, the Mixed Scramble on Friday 10th May and the Horseshoe Challenge on Friday 31st May and encouraged the ladies to sign up for both. Another notable date for the future, was the first open of the season, the Menary Cup, which this year is being sponsored by Blackwater Gin. Ladies were encouraged to invite along their golfing friends to help make the day a success. The gin-loving lady members, of whom there seem to be a good number, hope that as well as organising the sponsorship, she might persuade them to supply us with some free samples! Lady Captain also remarked on the recent Wine and Cheese evening thanking both bar manager Stephen and the ladies committee for their contribution in making the night a success. After all expenses had been deducted, she was delighted to report that £205 had been raised for her chosen charity PIPS. A great start to her fundraising for the year. The prizes for the April competitions were then given out.
