Men retain the Horseshoe Trophy

The annual match play competition between the men and the ladies took place recently.

The weather was showery and so it was decided to play the competition over 9 holes. The men, the holders of the trophy, discovered to their horror that they would be playing off the white tees and did a little bit of moaning until it was pointed out to them that playing off the greens would mean teeing off in front of the ladies in most of the holes!

Eight pairs of men and women set off to play in a fourball better ball stableford format and following some verbal gamesmanship the real play got underway. The women got off to a good start however this was not to last and the men ultimately retained the trophy by five matches to three. The match was followed by a meal in the clubhouse and Lady Captain Pat Carville magnanimously congratulated the men and handed the trophy over to Mr. Captain, Neill Dillon. Never mind ladies, there is always next year!
